ABOUT
THE
ARTIST
“To be able to function in the world we have to have a coherent narrative, without a coherent narrative we fall into mental illness. Narrative and autobiographical narrative is absolutely how we define ourselves.” In conversation with Lindsay Seers (2016)
My work takes a research as practice approach existing between written and visual forms, exploring the self, identity and emotion through an ongoing critique of society and neoliberalism. The work is interdisciplinary in approach and takes form through installation, sound, narrative and video art’; it can be read as a statement of intent or a call for action, “capitalist realism, is there no alternative?” (Mark Fisher) My most recent work has developed over a period of five years and has found form as self-reflexive memoir.
My writing has been featured in Jaws Journal of Art Writing (published by Intellect Books), 50gs online magazine and in Alice Furse's
A Catalogue of Failure. and in 2016 I was shortlisted for the Jerwood artist award. In 2017 I was awarded an interdisciplinary artist residency at Hospitalfields based on an ongoing enquiry into autobiographical writing.
